Big Brothers Big Sisters Gearing Up To Host First Color Run 5K Race

Alocalorganizationaimedat finding mentors for young kids will be hosting a first time event for them.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters program of central Illinois is hosting a "color-run" in Rantoul. Eric Batsie is the Executive Director of the Big Brother Big Sisters program for central Illinois, he says the event is a non-competitive race where runners at six points will be doused with different colors, and in the end, should come out looking completely tie-dyed.

According to Batsie, their program in Rantoul is really growing, he says though the run is not specifically aimed towards the Rantoul program. He explains they are a seven county agency, and so this will benefit all the programs around the area.

After the race, Batsie says they have teamed up with local businesses, as they've donated some of their food for the runners. He adds they've teamed up with the Rantoul Chamber of Commerce in hopes of the runners also staying around to support the downtown Rantoul businesses.

Batsie explains the money needed to run the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program is more than just a phone call. He says there is a lot of coordinating volunteers and younger kids. He adds there's always follow ups throughout the course of the friendship that is developed. He feels there is a lot more to their operation than meets the eye.
