Hillcrest officials approve Powers Park plan

Village officials in Hillcrest are moving forward in upgrading Powers Park in the near future.
The project includes a parking lot, a shelter, new playground equipment, along with a 1/4 mile walking path and upgrades to the baseball field.
The board approved the proposal last night from the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District.
42 surveys from the 450 homes were returned to get the viewpoint of local residents of the proposal. 74% were in favor of the plan while 17% were against the project. Village Board President Kim Whalen said that Powers Park was 1 area she wanted to improve when she took office.
The village plans to change insurance coverage next year from the Illinois Municipal League to Query Insurance Agency in Rochelle. They expect to save several thousand dollars with the new plan.
Spring road repairs are expected to cost around $120,000. The work includes Elliott and Moluf Drives, Roy and Jeffrey Avenues, along with Errett Road and possibly Hillcrest Avenue.
The board approved the zoning for Regional Ready Mix at their new location on 3 acres of land near Illinois 251 North and Lind Road. An ordinance was also introduced for storm water management in flood zone areas.
Rochelle Disposal is also expected to change their garbage pick-up day from Wednesday to Thursday starting in November.
