ALTON - The combination of Josh Weed and Marty Gerloff captured first place in the weekend Twisted Cat Outdoors fishing tournament in Alton with a total catch of 116.86 pounds. Weed-Gerloff won $10,080 for the first-place overall triumph.
Second place went to Jordan Collins, Joseph Quinn and Robert Ostrander with a big fish of 102.93 pounds and a total weight of 113.48 pounds. The second-place honor brought in $5,040 for the fishermen.

Castaway Customs MWSC Big Fish paid $500 to the fishermen.
Alex Nagy, a coordinator of the Twisted Cat Outdoors Tournament in Alton, said the tournament over the weekend went very well with 84 teams from 16 states represented with a big fish that weighed 102 pounds.
"The sport is growing," he said of the catfish competitions nationwide. "The City of Alton is helping push catfishing to a whole new level. We have caught two fish over 100 pounds in the last two tournaments here in Alton."
Nagy said it has been exciting to watch the sport grow and for Alton to receive so much attention because of its big catfish here.
"A lot of new anglers are getting involved and the sport is growing fast," he said. "Also a $10,000 first-place prize is a lot of money for the winners."
Alton will host another tourney - the Alton Catfish Classic on Sept. 7, 2024.
