Kaliski Brantley, Jr., 79 went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 23, 2017 at 3:35 a.m. at his home with his loving wife by his side.In the beginning, Kaliski was born in Manfold, LA on December 28, 1937 welcomed by father, Kaliski Brantley, Sr. and mother, Lou Taylor.He grew up in the south with a large family of 12 sisters and brothers which taught him about family unity, loyalty, and togetherness.  After graduating from Carral High School in Monroe, LA, he joined the United States Marine Corp.  Shortly after completing his duty of service, as Corporal, he came to Alton, IL.  There he met and married his wife, the former Ms. Lillian Johnson.  Together they celebrated 57 years of devotion and bliss.  Kaliski was always taught as a child to love God and church.  He was a faithful member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for over 57 years, where he served on the usher board.  Mr. Brantley was valued in the community serving as: Free Masonry Dunbar Masonic Lodge advancing to Worshipful Master and 32 Degree level; life member of the N.A.A.C.P., and past president for 14 years; member of Madison County Urban League for over 25 years; and member of auxiliary guild of the Urban league where he served as chaplain.  He received many awards for volunteering in the community and his church.He was preceded in death by his parents, and all siblings except 1.Celebrating lasting memories:  his devoted wife of 50 years, Lillian of Godfrey, IL; a grandson, Mario Holloway of Chicago, IL; a brother, Allen Brown of Delhi, LA; a brother-in-law, Jessie “Butch” Johnson of Godfrey; dear friends of many years, Fred Woods, Tom Caffey, Robert Jefferson, Sandra Williams, and nephew, Jimmy Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Visitation will convene Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at 6:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.  Cremation rites will be accorded.  Bishop William Scott will officiate.
