Derwood Vasser, 90, passed away at 1:43 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born Sept. 25, 1925 in Burdette, Ark., he was a son of Seigle and Kate (Jones) Turner. Derwood married Sybil Rose Beck Apr. 29, 1950 in Alton. She preceded him in death Feb. 8, 2010. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he worked as an electrician and welder for Alton Box Board, retiring before he was 60. He and Sybil loved camping and fishing, and together they took many camping trips. They also attended Northside Assembly of God in Godfrey for many years. Survivors include a sister, Stella (Edd) Denny of Shiloh, Ill.; two brothers, Jim (Sharon) Turner of Jonesboro, Ark. and Bill (Terry) Turner of Alton; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Pamela Vasser-Kopp; and two sons, Allen Derwood Vasser and Mark Wayne Vasser. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 19 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 10-10:30 a.m. A procession will then leave for graveside services at 11 a.m. at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
