Herbert Reisinger

Herbert Ulysses Reisinger, 90, of Collinsville and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:21 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, at his home.  He was born April 18, 1933, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late George and Genevieve (Lovvorn) Reisinger.  He married the love of his life, Shirley Helen (Haselhorst) Reisinger on December 27, 1952, at the Epiphany Church in St. Louis and she survives.  Herbert retired in 1994 from Granite City Steel after 42 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. 

The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He was a faithful member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville and a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City.  He served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a Knights of Columbus member and taught Bible studies.  He and his wife enjoyed working with the DeColores Ministries and was the founder of the United Congregation of Metro East.  From his early childhood, he worked hard, self-taught and learned to care for his family.  He enjoyed reading, studying history and always searching family genealogy. 

He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.  In addition to his beloved and cherished wife that held his hand through 72 wonderful years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Hwai Yang of Frontenac, Missouri and Judy and Gerald Jackson of Troy, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin Deason, Kimberly Terry, Kelly and Randy Christy, Leonard and Nan Fuchs, Jason Fuchs, Kristen and Blake Witzman, Rob Kaiser, Dr. Cameron and Christie Yang, Madison Yang, Gerald and Cindy Jackson Jr., Dr. Ryan and Valerie Jackson, Joseph Jackson and Courtney Jackson; many great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Debra Hinds and Geri Dillard and four siblings, Ruth Bunker, Marion Reisinger, George Reisinger and Donna Leonard.  In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.  A Funeral Mass will be held at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 200 N. Lange Street in Maryville on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. with Father Rob Johnson as celebrant.  Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Catholic Church in Edwardsville.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or as Masses.  Condolences may be accepted at www.irwinchapel.com
