Joseph “Gene” Rudd, 55, passed away at 3:17 pm on Thursday March 14, 2013 Alton Nursing and Rehab.
He was born in Alton on April 21, 1957, the son of Charles and Vivian (Nelson) Rudd.
Gene was a long time worker of the Alton Telegraph and working in the mail room for several years. He donated to the Jerry Lewis Telethon annually, was a member of the Cottage Hills Sons of the VFW. He loved to garden, barbeque, fry fish, dance, the St. Louis Cardinals, and above all was nice to everyone.
He is survived by four brothers, Michael and Loretta Northcutt, of Bakersfield, CA, Charles and Sherrie Rudd, of Roxana, David and Debbie Rudd, of Cottage Hills, Richard Rudd, of Alton; two sisters, Marilyn Chronister, of Wood River, and Barbara and John Moore, of Ferguson, MO; and best friend, Tony Walford, of Alton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sarah Reader; a brother Edward Northcutt; and several nieces and nephews.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 pm until time of the services at 7 pm Monday March 18, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL, with Lieutenants Bryan and Teri Ellison, of the Alton Salvation Army, will officiate.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, the COPD Foundation, or to a charity of one’s choice.
