Raymond A. “Ray” Aud, 92, passed away at 5:30am on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home with his loving family by his side. He was born on April 9, 1925, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of the late Arthur and Beulah (Peerman) Aud. He married the former Ruby Patton on June 19, 1946, in Olney, Illinois, and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters and sons in law: Sandy and Rick Calame of East Alton, Karen and Gene Welton of Holiday Shores, one son and daughter in law: Steve and Nancy Aud of Wood River, six grandchildren and their spouses: Trina and Tyler Behr of Brighton, Rachelle and Jim Crowe of Glen Carbon, Brad and Amy Welton of Holiday Shores, Casey and Kirsten Calame of Forney, Texas, Zane Aud of Wood River, Mazey Aud of Wood River, four great grandchildren: Drew, Ryan, Brynn, Cooper, and an expectant great grandchild.
Ray was formerly employed as a foreman at Olin Corporation for 32 years prior to his retirement. He was the longest living member of the Cottage Hills VFW Post #7678. Ray enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and he was very meticulous about his yard. He enjoyed spending time at the Alton Belle Casino. He loved to spend time with his family and he enjoyed writing songs. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in World War II
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson: Ryan Aud and by his siblings.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 10:30am until time of funeral services at 12:30pm on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Pastor Tony Rangel will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military rites by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308 of Alton.
Memorials are suggested to the Honor Flight Network and will be accepted at the funeral home.
