Richard J. Mader, 69, died at 11:37 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016 at his residence. He was born July 8, 1947 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Joe and Margaret Mary (Kuna) Mader. He was a graduate of Western Illinois University and a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He taught school at SS Peter & Paul School before joining the family business at The Alton Telegraph in the circulation department. After retiring from the newspaper business, he returned to teaching in the Alton school district as a sub and a teacher’s aide. On August 16, 1969 in Alton he married Mary Margaret Cousley and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2004. Surviving are two sons; Matt Mader (Jessica) of St. Charles, MO and Drew Mader (Hope) of Alton, three grandchildren; Finley, Riley and Wren Mader, one sister; Sue Moirano of Hickory Hills, Il. He was preceded in death by one sister; Judy Piepenbrink. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be at Alton City Cemetery.
