Robert L. Steele passed away at 77 years of age on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Greater Los Angeles.
He was born on August 4, 1931 in Mullen, Nebraska and had resided in California since 1968.
Mr. Steele retired from IBM in 1986 and previously served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and Director of Recreation for East Alton, Illinois. He graduated from Wood River High School in 1949 and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 1958.
Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Isla (Leavell) Steele; two daughters, Toni Sue Steele and Jodi Lee Steele; two sisters, Nancy Parko and Lita McClellan and a brother, Virgil Steele.
Mr. Steele was preceded in death by his parents, Homer & Bertha (Inman) Steele, a daughter, Jana Lea and two brothers, Cecil and Donald Steele.
Funeral services will be private. There will be an open house for friends and family on Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Holiday Inn of Alton, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Parkinson's Foundation or Stem Cell Research.
