Robert L. Thompson (Bob, Red) 78, of Hamel, IL, died at 6:10 PM Monday, July 20, 2009 at home.
He was born July 26, 1930 in Granite City, IL, a son of late Thomas and Mabel Thompson. His wife, Carol J. Thompson (Davis, Wadlow) survives.
Mr. Thompson served in the Navy during the Korean War and retired from A.O. Smith in Granite City, IL. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion, Post 199, Edwardsville and also a member of the Moose Lodge #1561, Edwardsville.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, a son Mark A. Thompson of Edwardsville, a daughter, Dawn R. McCormick of Edwardsville, four grandchildren and one great grandchild plus step children. A sister survives, Anita Whitt (Elmer) of Trenton, MO. Also surviving, Norma Thompson of Edwardsville, mother of his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Agnes Sedlock, and a brother, Thomas C. Thompson.
Honoring Mr. Thompson's wishes, there will be no services and he chose cremation.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or the American Cancer Society.
