Scott J. Shafer, 39, passed away at 11:06 am on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his home.

He was born on November 22, 1970 in Bethesda, MD, the son of David L. & Sharon Shafer of Jacksonville, IL and Kathleen A. (Jeffrey) & Jim Lewis of Alton.

He married Dawn R. Milligan on November 3, 2001 in Bethalto. She survives.

Scott grew up in the Carrollton area and graduated from Carrollton High School. He was self employed as an owner/operator of a Dr. Pepper/7Up Distributorship since 2001, but was employed in the soda industry for many years. He loved softball which he played for many years, he loved to make people laugh, enjoyed karaoke, was very family oriented and loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three children, Brittney Whorl of Bethalto and Jaynie & Madelyn Shafer of Jerseyville; his maternal grandmother, Hilda Jeffrey of Carrollton, IL; paternal grandmother, Martha Shafer of Jacksonville, IL; a half sister, Kimberly Shafer of Galesburg, IL; four step sisters and their spouses, Kelly & Ed Cannon of Jacksonville, IL, Heather & Mike Tillery of Franklin, IL, Michelle Greenwood of Bethalto and Lauren Lewis of Bethalto; a step brother, Chris Lewis of Bethalto; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom & Ruby Malone of Cottage Hills; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Billy & Mandy Timpe of Alton; his niece and goddaughter, Maci Timpe, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends..

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ralph Shafer and his maternal grandfather, Gilbert Jeffrey.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Visitation will continue at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, IL from 10 am until funeral services at 12 Noon on Friday, May 7, 2010 with Father Henry Schmidt officiating.

Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Carrollton.

Memorials may be made to 5 A’s, American Cancer Society or St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton.
