Shirley Monroe

Shirley J. Monroe, 80, from Jerseyville, Illinois graduated to heaven Monday evening, June 13, 2016. She was born October 7, 1935 in Jerseyville, Illinois to the late Carl Kenneth and Marguerite Murphy.  She was a homemaker, an avid reader, student of the Bible, and a woman of prayer and faith. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Jerseyville where she liked to volunteer. She enjoyed the last eight months of her life living and sharing life with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

She married Lyle C. Monroe, Sr. on November 20, 1954 in St. Louis. Together they raised three sons and one daughter.

 

She is survived by her children. Sons: Lyle C. and Nancy Monroe, Jr. of Smyrna, Tennessee; Rev. Robert L. and Rebekah Monroe of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Michael R. and Marcia Monroe of Buckley, Illinois. Daughter: Michelle R. and Robert Hinson of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

 

She also leaves behind grandchildren: Angela (Scott) Weidner, Brian (Pam) Monroe, Kevin (Kelly) Hinson, Patrick (Alicia) Monroe, Jennifer (Justin) Bauer, Elizabeth (Jay) Bennett, Amber (Luke) Garrett, Janelle (Nate) Johannsen,  Tabby Monroe, and Tiffany (Chris) Brown.

 

Her pride and joy were her great-grandchildren: Logan Bauer, Brooklyn Bauer,  Roland Bauer, Abby Hinson, Kinzie Bennett, Emma Weidner, Landon Brown, Charlotte Bauer, Bodie Bennett, Cathern Johannsen, Andrew Hinson, Carter Brown and Baby Bennett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Lyle C. Monroe, Sr. on May 1, 2015; and brothers, Kenneth Earl Murphy and Gerald Murphy.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 17 at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at the First Assembly of God in Jerseyville, with her son, Rev. Robert L. Monroe and Rev. Larry Hayes officiating.

Burial will be in the Noble Cemetery.

Memorials will be given to First Assembly of God in Jerseyville, where she was a very active and faithful member for many years.
