Sister Dolores Droste, aka Bertha Lucille Droste, died peacefully at St. Clare’s Hospital, Fenton, MO on Thursday, September 11, 2014. The daughter of Theodore Droste and Mary Haag Brinkman, she was born on July 28, 1923. She is survived by six siblings: Sister Juliana Droste, F.S.M., George (Margie) Droste, Paul (Dorothy) Droste, Julie Droste Mulrean, Agnes (Louis) Droste Hesse, Gertie Droste and sisters–in-law, Ann and Jeanette Droste. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ben and David Droste, and her sisters, Sister Mary Ann Droste, O.P., Sister Clare Droste, F.S.M.
Sister Dolores received her early education in Alton, graduating from Marquette High School in l941. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in July of l942, professing her vows in January of l945. Her Bachelor of Arts Degree is from Fontbonne College in St. Louis. She was an excellent primary teacher serving schools in Alton, Staunton, Wood River, and Collinsville, Illinois; and Arnold, Festus, and DeSoto, Missouri. She gave eleven years of internal service to the Ursuline Provincialate Community in Crystal City before retiring to Alton in 1995. She entered the Ursuline Healthcare Community in Alton in June of 2003. Sister Dolores recently moved to St. Andrew’s at Francis Place in Eureka, MO.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 15, 2014 at St. Ambrose Church, 820 W. Homer M. Adams Pkwy., Godfrey, Illinois. Visitation will be at 10:00 am. The Funeral Mass begins at 11:00 am. Rev. Stephen J. Pohlman will preside.
